life strategy as basketball
basketball can be a great analogy for life strategy
- reading and attacking the defender: you should always have multiple potential plans based on the defenders response
- you hit a float dribble, and if the defender steps up, you blow by them. if they step back or go back on their heels, you hit the three; you make someone an offer, if they take your offer, you have a deal right now and can get to work. if they don’t, you use it as motivation and work to find something better with a longer time investment.
- have short term memory for mistakes
- reflect, learn, and strategize from watching tape (including your own)
- control your pace. change your pace strategically to keep defenders guessing. this also allows you to make smarter decisions and avoid mistakes like TOs
- ex: default to speaking slowly in order to read the conversation properly and choose your words wisely. you will be communicating with thought, and will know when to change your pace
